Sandbox Environment
What is the Sandbox Environment?
The sandbox environment is a separate, isolated instance of your eBECAS/EDMISS system used for testing and training purposes. It mirrors your live environment but operates independently, ensuring that any changes or experiments made in the sandbox do not impact real data or operations.
Benefits of Using the Sandbox Environment
Safe Testing Space
The sandbox allows users to test new features, workflows, or configurations without the risk of affecting live data. You can experiment freely, knowing that any mistakes made will not impact your actual operations.
Training Platform
New staff members can use the sandbox to familiarise themselves with the system in a controlled environment. This reduces the learning curve and allows them to practise handling various tasks before working in the live environment.
Reduces Risk
Implementing significant changes directly in the live environment can be risky. The sandbox environment provides a safe way to verify that changes work as expected before applying them to the live system.
API Testing Environment
The sandbox can be used as an API testing environment, allowing developers to test integrations and API calls without affecting live data. This ensures that APIs function as expected before they are implemented in the production environment.
Automatic Monthly Data Refresh
The sandbox environment is automatically refreshed once a month with data from the production environment. This ensures that the sandbox remains up to date with the latest information from your live system. The monthly refresh provides a more accurate testing and training experience by reflecting current data and system settings.
How to Use the Sandbox Environment
The sandbox environment can be accessed through either eBECAS/EDMISS Classic, the Next Generation platform, or both.
As the sandbox is a copy of your production environment, your login credentials remain the same as they were at the time the sandbox was last refreshed.
Access via eBECAS/EDMISS Classic (Desktop)
Your administrator will provide a download link to install the sandbox version of eBECAS/EDMISS on your pc. Follow the installation instructions to begin using the sandbox environment.
Access via eBECAS/EDMISS Next Generation (Web)
For web users, your administrator will share a direct link to the Next Generation sandbox environment.
Considerations when Using Sandbox
Any data entered or modified in the sandbox cannot be automatically transferred to the production environment. Therefore, any changes made in the sandbox must be manually replicated in the live system if required.
To protect the live data in the sandbox, file deletion is not permitted.
To prevent real messages (emails and SMS) from being sent to actual users (including students, agents, etc), messages are redirected to a designated recipient set by the system administrator. This allows you to test email and SMS functionality without reaching real recipients while ensuring that the messages can still be reviewed by a desired recipient.
Pricing
The sandbox environment is offered as an add-on to your eBECAS/EDMISS subscription and incurs an additional cost. This ensures that only organisations that need a dedicated testing environment can access this feature. Please contact us for pricing and activation details.
